He remarked, "It's evident that Moscow is rushing to restart conversations as soon as it hears about cruise missiles." These remarks referred to earlier musings about providing long-range weapons to the Ukrainian military.

Diplomatic Moves and International Reactions

An ex- US state department official, a foreign policy expert, observed, "Putin is attempting to disrupt the progress toward greater pressure on Russia." He added, "The outcome will become clear on Friday, but the chances of moving toward a truce by pressuring Russia to engage sincerely appear to have decreased."

This development followed the US president had in recent days been hardening his language toward Moscow until Thursday's conversation with Putin, which the Russian government characterized as "highly open and trustful."

EU Fuel Restrictions and Economic Impact

EU authorities have established a mandate for energy suppliers into the European Union to demonstrate their fuels are not sourced from Russian crude, as stated in a official guideline released on Thursday. This measure is included in the European Union's forthcoming ban on imports of refined products processed from Russian crude, which is included in its latest restrictive measures against Russia over its military actions in the region.

Financial analysts observed that investment patterns appeared to be factoring in the potential reduction of Indian purchases of Russian crude. Several Indian refiners are preparing to cut purchases from Russia, with projections of a gradual decrease, as reported by sources familiar with the matter.

"This represents a positive development for the oil market as it would eliminate a big customer of Russian crude," commented a market analyst, adding that crude values were steady on the trading day.

Security Developments and Energy Attacks

A large-scale Russian unmanned aircraft and missile attack targeted gas facilities in Ukraine's eastern regions on the same day, resulting in disruptions in multiple regions. Ukrainian officials stated that Russia deployed hundreds of unmanned vehicles and dozens of projectiles, along with aerial munitions.

"During this fall, the Russian forces use daily opportunities to attack at our energy infrastructure," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noting that attacks impacted the regions of northern Ukraine, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy and Vinnytsia.

International Political Reactions

Ukraine's representative to the United States, Olga Stefanishyna, stated that Moscow showed its true approach to peace through the "violence" of these attacks. "Russia once again opted for missiles over talks, turning this attack into a clear blow to ongoing peace efforts," Stefanishyna commented.

Meanwhile, the European Union's foreign policy chief, the bloc's representative, stated that the European Union had no choice but to strengthen anti-drone defences against Russia. Kallas announced a "plan" to get ready for possible conflict by 2030, featuring a novel anti-drone system to be completely functional by the end of 2027.

This initiative, dubbed the "European drone defence initiative," is expected to start operations in its first phase by the end of 2026 and be fully functioning by the end of 2027. EU authorities aims to secure the support of EU leaders at a summit next week.
