Two Victims Named in Brown University Incident as Authorities Press On With Manhunt for Perpetrator.

Both young individuals who died in Saturday’s violent attack on the university campus were being remembered Monday – as a manhunt for their shooter carried on following the release by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was called “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared words of sorrow on social media, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Keeping in mind her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”

The Second Victim

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his initial year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.

His name was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

What Happened

An additional nine individuals were injured in the violent event in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Law enforcement reported late Sunday that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a search at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you must reassess and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

The shooter opened fire inside a classroom in the building on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a law enforcement official reported to the media outlet.

Condition of the Injured

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the nation’s seventh-oldest college with about over seven thousand undergraduate and three thousand graduate students, happened during one of at least 392 mass shootings reported in the US so far in the current year, according to data.
