The City of Angels experienced citywide celebrations after the Dodgers clinched a thrilling seven-match World Series championship. Supporters across the globe joined Angelenos in celebration, marking the initial time in 25 years that a franchise has secured back-to-back championships.
Local celebrations included a downtown parade on the morning of the parade, a reserved-seating event at Dodger Stadium, and impromptu gatherings across the city.
Online footage show countless of Angelenos packing city center avenues, many carrying handmade banners and Dodger flags. The squad was seen riding high on a double-decker bus through the masses, raising the championship trophy proudly.
“I’m already thinking about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an translator.
The parade route ended at the stadium, where the players emerged to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and the artist driving a light blue classic car around the field.
Festivities started well before the procession, with supporters setting off flares in the streets of the city center on the previous evening.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, named the MVP of the championship, spoke plainly about the victory.
“We refuse to lose,” Yamamoto said. “I adore this team. This city means everything to me.”
In contrast, the team owner received a cooler welcome at the celebration. Recordings from the gathering seem to depict him taking the stage to a mix of cheers and boos, with jeers punctuating his speech.
The World Series served as a bright spot in what has been a challenging year for Los Angeles. An approximate 225,000 people attended to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to Dodgers player one athlete, fans this year showed as much if not more support.
“I feel like it’s almost double from last year,” Freeman said. “These fans are crazy. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
